NELSON MANDELA DAY 2012: UNIC LAGOS STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, CLEAN-UP WESLEY SCHOOL FOR THE HEARING-IMPAIRED, SURULERE, LAGOS
The United Nations General Assembly declared July 18, Nelson Mandela International Day. The date which is Nelson Mandela’s birthday is commemorated annually in recognition of his contributions to democracy, racial justice & reconciliation and his dedication to t
he service of humanity.
To mark the 2012 Nelson Mandela Day, the United Nations Information Centre, Lagos organized a cleaning exercise at the Wesley School for the Hearing Impaired in Surulere, Lagos.
For about 67 minutes in the morning of Wednesday 18 July, no fewer than twenty five volunteers from different non- governmental organizations, individuals, interns and staff of the UNIC, Lagos cleaned up the premises of Wesley School.
Specific places cleaned within the school included toilets, windows and the Library. Volunteers also assisted in fetching water for the students.
